Indie rocker Timothy Showalter, aka Strand of Oaks, is gearing up to return with a new album called Hard Love. Due out February 17th through Dead Oceans, it serves as his fourth LP overall following 2014’s stellar HEAL.

The nine-track effort was born following a year spent relentlessly touring behind HEAL — including captivating sets at Newport Folk Festival, Primavera, and Governors Ball. For the sessions, Showalter tapped producer Nicolas Vernhes (Speedy Ortiz, Dirty Projectors) to help him capture a “loose, hedonistic vibe.”

“In a time of calculation and overthinking, I wanted to bring back the raw, impulsive nature that is the DNA of so many records I love,” Showalter explained in a press statement. “Some records are built like monuments, set in stone. I want this record to be burned in effigy, in celebration of the limited time we have on this earth.”

Our first peek at Hard Love comes courtesy of “Radio Kids”, a fuzzy, impassioned cut that calls to mind the alternative rock of the ’90s. Check it out below via its Christopher Good-directed video, which features some cool looking headbanging.
