Paul Westerberg and Juliana Hatfield share new song, “King of America”

There’s something about Thanksgiving and Paul Westerberg that go together. I don’t know why. I just love listening to “Love Untold” or “Love You in the Fall” around these times. Chummy? Whimsical? Whatever.

But, hey, I’d be more than happy to entertain a little Juliana Hatfield, too. So you could imagine my enthusiasm when I logged on to Facebook this morning and saw there’s a new song called “King of America” by The I Don’t Cares to download.

Perhaps it’s a holiday thing? After all, they shared their debut track, “1 / 2 2 P”, on Halloween. Maybe we’ll get the full album, Wild Stab, by Christmas? If it sounds like what we’re hearing — pure ’90s Westerberg — that would be the best present ever.

For now, “King of America” will do. It’s a jangly slice of alternative folk with sounds coming from everywhere. There’s a nostalgic wash to the distortion that wouldn’t be out of place on 14 Songs or Eventually. The production’s surprisingly polished, too.

Grab it now for .99 cents on iTunes.
