Following a temporary opening in September, Prince’s iconic Paisley Park compound has officially been rezoned as a museum. The designation comes after a unanimous vote by the Chanhassen City Counsel on Monday evening. The vote was initially delayed as local residents expressed concerns over an expected uptick in traffic.
Doors to the 65,000-square-foot property opened for three days last month for a select number of tours, allowing visitors a look inside Prince’s office, recording studio, and private club. They also got to see outfits and instruments from the various stages of the Grammy-winning musician’s career, as well as the Paisley Park-shaped urn in which his ashes now rest. The Purple One himself reportedly left detailed instructions for how the museum should be set up.
Tours will begin running on a permanent basis this Friday (October 28th), with tickets through December on sale now. Passes for 2017 are expected to be available by mid-November. Early-bird GA entry is priced at $38.50 and will rise to $50.00 once a specific day’s early passes are sold out. There’s also a $100 VIP Experience available that includes a guided tour running 30 minutes longer than the GA one and takes guests into additional rooms and studio areas. In addition, VIPs will get an exclusive photo-op, but will have to purchase a $10 Paisley Park flash drive to take advantage of it.
“Fans will have the unprecedented opportunity to experience first-hand what it was like for Prince to create, produce and perform inside this private sanctuary and remarkable production complex,” reads a statement on the official Paisley Park website. Head there now to purchase tickets.
