Jim Jarmusch’s new documentary about Iggy and The Stooges, Gimme Danger, received its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. As it approaches a limited release in New York and Detroit on October 28th and wider screenings on November 4th, the first trailer for the film has been revealed.
As “I Wanna Be Your Dog” plays on in the background, footage of Iggy Pop “jumping up and down like baboons do before they’re gonna fight” is spliced with audio of Iggy himself explaining the band’s communal, label-shirking approach to changing the course of rock history. Featuring snippets from interviews with the members of The Stooges and clips of the band’s legendary shows (including that infamous peanut butter incident), the trailer makes a strong case for Iggy and The Stooges being “the greatest rock and roll band ever.”
